ROAD TRIP ’86

A retro 1980s road trip survival game inspired by the spirit of The Oregon Trail.

Load up the wagon... except now it’s a beat-up station wagon, a van, or some questionable used car with bad brakes and a tape deck full of mixtapes. Keep your crew fed, manage fuel, survive weird roadside disasters, and try to make it west with your dignity intact.

What is Road Trip ’86?

Road Trip ’86 is a browser game built by Back Pocket Studio. It channels the feeling of old school educational-adventure games and blends it with a messy, funny, road-worn 1980s American cross-country trip.

Every run throws new problems at you: flat tires, bad food, shady mechanics, fuel scares, wrong turns, miracle finds, and the occasional beautiful sunset that almost makes it all worth it.

Why split it into multiple files?

This new structure makes Road Trip ’86 easier to improve over time. Static data, gameplay systems, UI rendering, and visual effects are separated so the project can grow without turning into one giant fragile file.

That means cleaner upgrades later for route selection, party members, more event types, achievements, save slots, and deeper storytelling.
